Interior Design Students Visit Niermann Weeks at “What’s New What’s Next” in New York City

The instructor of the Interior Design I course, Lisa McTernan (on the right in the green blouse) took her class to the “What’s New, What’s Next @ 200 Lex” show at the Design Center in NYC. The Niermann Weeks family gave them a private demonstration and touted them as the “next generation of designers” and welcomed them back at any time.

New York Times Knowledge Network

Purchase College offers Noncredit online courses through the New York Times Knowledge Network. These courses are taught by staff who work for the NY Times. Dates will be announced on the linked site above on September 1.

The three courses this year are - Theater and Global Change, which looks at how theater can be used to understand and interact with the changing world. Second is California Wines: Napa Cabaret. This course is all about California wines and the differences of them. Finally, When Everything Changed looks at the change of women in America over the past 50 years.

One of our Certificate Programs is Pilates Mat Instruction. For anyone who enjoys Pilates, and is interested in a career teaching it to others could find this program to be useful.

You will be taught by some of the best in the world of Pilates. Simona Cipriani is a trainer who helped athletes as a massage therapist at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics and 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. Dr. Jospeh Muscolino has written numerous books used in the teaching of Pilates across the country.

Two brand new noncredit Professional Certificate Programs are making their way to Purchase College this fall. Both courses will be taught online in a convenient way, perfect for any working adults. Certificate courses have been a great way to boost the skills of any professional in their chosen field. Click on both underlined links below to find more information at our website.

The Teaching Artists Certificate Program is the first, meant to help anyone looking to bring their art skills and techniques to the classroom to help others. It can be used to learn about teaching the arts from Elementary School through High School, as well as in the local community.

The next brand new online certificate program is for Arts Management. We have given this certificate program before, but this is the first time there will be an online version. This program is great for students looking to improve management, fundraising and marketing of the arts. It is also a helpful start for artists looking to join or start a non-profit organization or company, as well as people looking to transition into the arts management field.

In a tough job market, these certificates can be a great boost to your resume, or perhaps someone looking to change a career.

We found a great success story of a recently divorced mother who went back in to the work force after getting three certificates. It also has some great information about the use of Certificates. Stories like these are plentiful and refreshing to see. Professional Certificates aren’t just ideal for adults who have been out of the work force or looking to change careers either.
